Benzoin resin (sometimes called gum) is a popular incense material with a delightful sweet and powdery scent.

Benzoin is a natural resin that can be collected from two types of styrax trees: Styrax benzoin, native to Sumatra, and Styrax tonkinensis, which grows in Southeast Asia. When the trees are injured, the resin flows off the trunk and hardens with air exposure, creating a natural bandage.
